I’m wanting window shades for my apt. I have 2 cats that like to climb my mini blinds, I’m being very picky as to what I want. I would like to have manual shades, nothing w/ any strings that hang down nor any wooden shades that my cats could climb. My window measurements are 39" x 55", anything longer than 55" is fine also.

This is a conference room at a Cancer Center in San Diego. The job was originally specified with 8 motorized shades and we changed it to 3 shades instead. This helped make the room darker for presentations and overall a better look. The drawback was we needed to seam the fabric due to the overall width. The seams are minimized and lined up with the window mullions so you cannot see all of them from the outside. We used a Somfy RTS Altus 50 Motor and tied it into a Lutron Graphic Eye automation system with a Somfy 16 Channel Automation Interface. I’ve been imagining a type of window shades that would roll up and down inside vertical rails attached to the sides of a window frame, so as to completely block the light.

Up until now, the only blackout shades I could find are not guided by such rails. This doesn’t block the light from entering on the sides. Do such a thing exist in the USA, and where can I get one?

Alternatively, I could probably fit some railing system on the sides of a window frame. In this case, what system would you advise me to get?
